Women Belong in Science and Tech!

by Eva St. Clair September 23, 2017 1 min read

We humans have a natural curiosity about the world that is often most evident in children. When you meet scientists from any discipline this same curiosity still thrives and can be utterly contagious. The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) works to provide opportunities for young girls to meet scientists and see a glimpse of a career following that curiosity. Through hands-on activities, conferences and mentoring girls (grades K-12) that curiosity fostered. The Smithers VolunTEENS program and SCWIST are hosting the Non-Instructional Day Science Extravaganza on Oct 20th from 10am-11:30am. There will be many science-based activities and experiment stations to try.

In honor their event, Princess Awesome is giving away one dress to a lucky winner live at the SCWIST event on October 20, and a second dress to a winner through our online giveaway through October 20.

Share the love of SCWIST and promote women and girls in STEM fields!

I feel very comfortable creating art for kids, because I'm really a kid at heart. I love cute animals and bright colors. I find it particularly satisfying to distill complex concepts into simple shapes that are stylized but easily recognizable.

Sienna Farr was one of Princess Awesome's first models, before our Kickstarter, before we were much more than a dream and a few dresses made of tee shirts and quilting material. She died in a fire that also seriously injured her mother on August 11, 2023, aged 13.
