As the mom of one tween and one young teen, I understand only too well the challenge of finding versatile, well-fitted clothing for young girls. To solve the problem that I (and many other parents) face on a daily basis, I created CALZICO – a fun and functional tween apparel line that encourages individuality, decision-making and personal style.
It all began when my expressive tween daughter, Callie – the 'Cal' in CALZICO – started to show an interest in choosing and arranging clothing to fit her sense of style, mood or occasion, but often couldn’t find what she was looking for. It was this spark of inspiration that led me to create a convertible skirt for my daughter – now a signature item in what has grown into a seven-piece collection of convertible, reversible and layering styles, cut and sewn in North Carolina.
CALZICO is exclusively designed for girls ages 6-14, to empower and build confidence at what can be a challenging developmental stage. Encouraging self-confidence and a sense of identity is an important consideration in the construction of every CALZICO piece. I’ve designed each garment to provide young girls with choices, as even choosing what to wear involves an independent decision-making process – allowing girls to take ownership of the image they present to the world.
In addition to being reversible and convertible, many of the designs have been influenced by my travel experiences and feature textiles and prints from locations around the world. CALZICO is globally aware and I want to share that by adding an international element to the garments.
