Happy March 5!

Still jumping for joy

It’s the two-year anniversary of Princess Awesome’s Kickstarter finish, and we are so happy to be here, doing this work we love that our backers made possible - making awesome clothes for awesome girls. Here’s our quick update from the past year.

Major Developments since March 5, 2016:

  1. We released our “Fleur-de-Liftoff” Rockets pattern in May.
  2. It came with a new fit - a big twirly skirt, true-to-size top, and POCKETS.
  3. We released the “Sparklebots” Robots pattern in September.
  4. In October, we produced a special “Wickedly Brew-tiful” Macbeth Witches’ Brew pattern just for Halloween.
  5. We also introduced long sleeves!
  6. In December, our “FireFlight” Dragons and “Atomic Flurry” Science Snowflakes designs debuted.
  7. We were featured on the reality TV show Project Runway: Fashion Startup.
  8. In February we released our “BeetleBrite” Bugs pattern.

Just the two of us here...plus the six kids...

You’ll notice quickly what’s not on the list - no new hires! Yes, it’s still just Rebecca and Eva here. We did give ourselves fancy titles though, just for fun.

Rebecca is our Chief Operations Officer. She spends a lot of time working with spreadsheets to figure out how much of everything to order, and she’s also our sole customer service representative.

Eva is the Chief Creative Officer. She’s on social media, writes about Girl Empowerment for our blog, and makes new things in her basement. Yes, the basement is still our design headquarters. Instead of a fort, there’s a wooden train system down there now.

We also spent time this fall focused on growing as business women. We joined an amazing organization in DC called Her Cornerwhich helps women business owners grow their businesses. If you are a woman who runs her own business in the DC or Philadelphia area, we highly recommend Her Corner.

Every day, we wake up and see your photos and comments about what girls are saying and doing when they wear Princess Awesome dresses. It is the best feeling in the world. We are incredibly grateful - for your belief in us that we (a stay-at-home mom and a third-grade teacher) could create and run a clothing company; for your continued support; and for the joy of the work itself. Thank you - and here’s to 2017!

Woohoo! Let's go 2017

About the Designer - Carrie Cantwell

by Eva St. Clair September 02, 2023 3 min read

I’m an illustrator, surface designer and educator based in Atlanta, GA. I live with my boyfriend and our three rescue kitties, who very often make it into my art, especially the two black cats.

I feel very comfortable creating art for kids, because I'm really a kid at heart. I love cute animals and bright colors. I find it particularly satisfying to distill complex concepts into simple shapes that are stylized but easily recognizable.

Sienna Farr was one of Princess Awesome's first models, before our Kickstarter, before we were much more than a dream and a few dresses made of tee shirts and quilting material. She died in a fire that also seriously injured her mother on August 11, 2023, aged 13.
